‘Life in Finance’ experience for Ella

Hautlieu School year 12 student, Ella Wright joined us for two weeks in August for a 'Life in Finance' rotational work placement.

The ‘Life in Finance’ Programme is organised by Jersey Finance to enable businesses to connect with students who are interested in pursuing a career in the Jersey finance sector.

As an independent Jersey trust company, we have a unique offering as an employer of choice for those looking at trust or accountancy pathways. We are committed to providing genuine career opportunities and our close-knit team provides a very warm and nurturing environment for students joining us on work placements.

We are pleased to support this initiative for a second year and welcome Ella Wright to Alex Picot Trust.

The initiative involves students attending a ‘meet and greet’ event where companies like Alex Picot Trust present themselves and talk about the opportunities offered. The students are then invited to apply to the businesses that catch their attention and are then selected for the work experience placements.

We caught up with Ella during her two-week placement to find out how she was getting on.

Alex Picot was attractive as my Life in Finance Placement because of the friendly faces I was greeted with at the event (Warwick Gill and Melissa Gordon), they thoroughly discussed the placement and created the idea the placement would be my choice on what main areas I would like to focus on, which eventually resulted in a rotational placement that I am really enjoying so far.

Private client trust work is something I am interested in, and it may be a future career after my A-Levels as I now have a great insight into all different aspects of private trust work.

What surprised me most about working in a trust company is that every day is different, the work is varied and there are always people around to assist you (should you need it).

At the end of the two weeks, I decided that I had enjoyed the private trust side the most, as everyday was different and it gave me a broad insight into a career path I am considering after I finish my A Levels.

Thank you so much to Ella for her interest in Alex Picot Trust and congratulations to her for her confident approach to the work placement. It has been a pleasure having her with us and we wish her all the very best for future.
